Document the condition
Take both close-up and wide photos of cracks, edges, settlement and adjacent drainage. Include the age if known, prior repairs and whether the condition appears to be changing.
Separate cosmetic and structural questions
A surface blemish and damage to a load-bearing member are not the same problem. Structural movement, damaged reinforcement or uncertainty about capacity should go to the appropriate professional for evaluation.
Compare complete scopes
A repair proposal should identify preparation, the repair area and the intended finish. A replacement proposal should identify demolition, disposal, base work, reinforcement, new concrete and the return-to-use plan.
Do not hide the underlying condition
Where drainage, base movement or loading is involved, replacing only the visible surface may not resolve the issue. Discuss what investigation or design information is needed before selecting a construction scope.
