Before Demolition: Project Planning Checklist

Prepare the scope, surveys and site responsibilities before removal.

Define the removal boundary

State whether the work includes the building, slab, foundations, pavement, below-grade items and finish grading. Mark neighboring structures and items to remain.

Resolve surveys and utility controls

OSHA demolition rules address a pre-demolition engineering survey and control of service lines. The required survey, hazardous-material review, utility arrangements and any abatement must be resolved before affected operations begin.

Specify the site logistics

Provide truck access, staging, adjoining occupancy and the allowed work window. Identify who is responsible for permits, public protection and required inspections.

Set the closeout condition

Clarify removal depth, backfill, grading, drainage and documentation. Over-water structure work, blasting and unconfirmed regulated-material abatement are not offered by this website.

This guide supports initial project planning. It is not an engineering design, a permit determination, an exposure-control plan or a fixed-price proposal. Site conditions and applicable requirements must be reviewed before work is accepted.
